Trust in The Lord/ Called of Him

There's was a big push in missionary efforts in general conference and we've heard it also in our stake conference. "Hastening the work" is the new favorite phrase of leaders.
I like the Pres Spencer Kimball quote Elder Ballard shared
"..the scriptures are repleat with commands and promises and calls and rewards for teaching the gospel. I use the word command deliberately for it seems to be an insistent directive from which we, singly and collectively, cannot escape".

Elder Funk shares how we can effectively share the gospel:
"I order to have the sororal powe necessary to open the door of the kingdom of God... you must be humble and obedient and have te ability to hear and follow the Spirit."

We've had several conversations in our house lately about how difficult it is forthe  youth of the church today to be truly humble and obedient. For the last few years we've heard a lot about how awesome the youth are, how great they are, how special they are. And although that is true, I don't think we don't emphasize enough that a lot of hard work is involved in living up to the potential of the youth of the latter-days. Being obedient and humble isn't something that is stressed a lot.  Should the message be more of how great and awesome the promises are for them if they're humble and obedient- that those are the things that will make them awesome and great.
"If you are humble, you will want to be obedient. If you are obedient, you will feel the Spirit. The Spirit is essential, for without the Spirit, you will never succeed regardless of your talent and ability."

  1. In October conference of 2010' President Henry B Eyring said: "You show your trust in Him, when you listen with the intent to learn and repent and then you go and do whatever He asks. If you trust God enough to listen for His message in every sermon, song and prayer in this conference, you will find it. And if you then go and do what He would have you do, your power to trust Him will grow, and in time you will be overwhelmed with gratitude to find that He has come to trust you."

  2. President Brigham Young has said" The person who enjoys the experience of the knowledge of the kingdom of God on the earth and at the same time has the love of God within him, is the happiest of any individual on the earth. Where is happiness, true happiness?, in God."

  3. Elder L Tom Perry in April 1978, had stopped to visit with the night watchman whose daughter had recently joined the church. The watchman said: 'You know she just radiates since she joined your church.'. I proceeded to tell him that having a trust in the Lord and conforming our life to the gospel plan does make a change, even in our countenance. When we follow the course marked by the road signs of the gospel of Jesus Christ and place his trust in the Lord, it's influence is such that it is manifest not only in action and deed, but by a marked and visible change in his very being. There is a special light and spirit which radiates from his eternal soul."

  5. " As life supplies its stores of tribulation, we need the consolation that comes with knowing that God is good and that He is near, that He understands and that He loves us and will help us and strengthen us for the realities of a world where sin and affliction exist. From this source-from God and Christ- wisdom and strength can be found that will make endurance possible and relationships generous and helpful that will lead to abundance of life and to everlasting life. God will temper the wind to the shorn lamb and help us endure all things and continue to maintain integrity in the face of the siren song of invitation to curse God and die- die spiritually, die as to things pertaining to righteousness, die to hope and holiness and faith in a future where there is no corruption and no pain. Christ came that man would have life abundant and life eternal and He declared:'this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom Thou has sent.'(John 17:3). And that knowledge, I testify is the most important treasure one can possess or seel.". I say AMEN to that!! Marion D Hanks April 1975

  6. President Marion G Romney in April 1979 said:" It appears from the Word of Wisdom and other scriptures that there are destroying angels who have a work to do among the people of the earth in this last dispensation . The Lord told the Prophet Joseph Smith in 1831that because all flesh was corrupted before Him, and because the powers of darkness prevailed upon the earth, these angels were 'waiting the great command to reap down the earth to gather the fares that they might be burned (DC38:12). In 1894, President Woodruff said:' God has held the angels of destruction for many years lest they should reap down the wheat with the fares. But I want to tell you now, that those angels have left the portals of heaven and they stand over this people and this nation now and are hovering over the earth waiting to pour out judgements. And from this very day, they shall be poured out. Calamities and troubles are increasing in the earth and there is a meaning to these things.'. Improvement Era Oct. 1914. Pg 1165

  7. President Romney went on to say:" Now my beloved brethren , in view of this revealed knowledge and understanding which the Lord has given concerning what is transpiring about us, is it not a glorious thing to have the assurance that if we will clothe ourselves with bodies purified through observance of the Word of Wisdom, these destroying angels will pass us as they did the children of Israel and not slay us? Well this is one of the blessings to follow the observance of the Word of Wisdom.". April 1979

  8. The promised blessings for obedience to the law of tithing are just as specific as those for the obedience to the Word of Wisdom. One of them has to do with the productivity of the soil. President Romney then quoted Elder James E Talmage who said:" Do you know that the soil can be sanctified by the tithing of its products? The land can be sanctified. There is a relationship between the elements and forces of nature, and the actions of men.". (Conference Oct. 1929) 'And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the fields, saith the Lord of Hosts.'. 3Nephi24:10-11, DC 85:3. The Lord explains that his purpose in tithing His people is' to prepare them against the day of vengeance and burning.' DC 64:23, for he that is tithed, shall not be burned at His coming.

  9. President Thomas S Monson in April Conference of 2012 said: "Our Heavenly Father did not launch us our eternal voyage without providing the means whereby we could recieve from Him guidance to ensure our safe return. I speak of prayer. I speak too, of the whisperings of the still small voice and I do not overlook the holy scriptures which contain the word of the Lord and the words of the prophets- provided to us , to help us successfully cross the finish line."

  10. Andrea Allen in1995 stated:We are faced with challenges, choices and difficult situations. Many times we think we are strong enough to handle them by ourselves. We aren't strong enough, not by ourselves at least. But if we seek with real intent ang with all our hearts for help and answers, we will recieve guidance and direction from the Lord. We need to allow the Lord to help us. We must trust in him and do His will, we will find true joy and happiness. We wii know that what we have done is right. ' Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.'. Proverbs 3:5-6
